Daniel Ho

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. I’m Daniel, it’s a pleasure to have you here.

I’m a recent UC Berkeley Computer Science grad (Class of 2020 represent!) working on backend development, cloud infrastructure, breaking into fintech and payments in tech, and developing my skills in project planning and strategy.

The work I do

  • Working at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and fintech on the Billing team at Mapbox. I work heavily with AWS (S3, EC2, Cloudfront, etc.) and Javascript (Node, React, Express etc.), while helping meter and bill for billions of incoming requests each day

  • Past intern at one of the products I use and enjoy the most, Strava, where I worked hard to redesign old Ruby on Rails pages in React and bring SEO optimization and new backend development to build out new sections of the site

  • Built secure code in Golang for a WiFi mesh system with alongside one of the smartest and most successful founding teams I’ve worked with at Brightgate.

  • Former TA for Berkeley’s ever-popular Web Design Decal class, helping students hit the ground running with the basics of web dev and teaching the principles of design for a well-grounded start in mindful web development

  • Officer and alumni of the UC Berkeley Open Computing Facility, which offers a computer lab, web hosting and high-performance computing to students all for free on a bare-metal server rack and a computer lab run with Debian Linux, Puppet and Kubernetes. Worked on large DevOps/SRE projects like an org-wide migration from Marathon/Mesos over to Kubernetes, while managing configuration of our computer lab used by hundreds of students every day.

A lil’ more about me

  • I explore and hanging out with friends while biking. Collegiate road cyclist and officer for Cal Cycling during my time at Berkeley, and spent 3 great years living in the Cal Cycling Bike House during my time! Took a coming-of-age biking trip when I turned 18 from SF to LA. I don’t record all of my activities but let’s connect on Strava

  • I race my car at track days and on midnight touge runs – shoutout to the Alpinespeedstars driving map

  • Learned of mindfulness, compassion, and everyday sustainable living when I was vegan for a few years

  • Working on cooking edible great food during WFH and learning from the best – my mom. Baking cookies and other treats too.

  • Blew my 10th grade savings on a $1000 cryptocurrency mining rig I built. Bitcoin was triple digits at the time (and less than $100 when I first started), which would have turned out to be much better investment than mining alt-coins.

  • I’ve been growing a mechanical keyboard collection before it was cool. Frequent goer of local meetups. Helped organize one of the largest meetups in Norcal!
